Give me Liberty or Give me Death

Resultado de imagem para give me liberty or give me death gif

During this week, we used the theme liberty in my 11 AP study of rhetorical analysis, that got me wondering about the complexity of this theme and how we, as humans, wonder about it as something necessary.

When my teacher assigned this purpose for my class, the first thing that I did was browsing the word liberty on the web, and I -not surprisely, found several pictures of the Lady Liberty and in accordance to the dictionary, Liberty is the freedom from external or foreign rule; independence. Particularly, it is more than that to me. Liberty, by my view is about several diverse things. It is about birds and their freedom to fly wherever they want to, and to always fly back too, if they want to. It is about women being free to wear any clothes that they would like to. It is about liberty of expresssion to express your opinions without being caged. It is about countries achivieng their independence. It is about saying no to any kind of submission. It is about standing up for what you believe in.So, Give me Liberty or Give me Death, each person is born with its own liberty, its own independence, and living without liberty is the same thing as birds caged, not living.

Therefore, if you are reading this, do not accept any kind of submssion, you are not thirteen colonies, you are United States of America.

  1. I really like how you see liberty as birds being able to fly wherever their heart desires and how it also allows people to wear whatever they want. I never thought of liberty that way but I really like your interpretation of what it means to you.

  2. The numerous examples of liberty that you wrote about really paints a vibrant image! The birds flying, the freedom of expression using clothing, not having to be caged up, it all really is very symbolic of liberty, and I think you captured it beautifully.

  5. I agree with your views on liberty. I like how you used metaphors, relating liberty to birds being free to fly wherever they want to. I also like how you referenced the dictionary and defined liberty before you began talking about your views on it. Overall, I think your post was inspiring and insightful.

What is a Parody?

As we read “ Sinner in the H ands of an Angry God” during this week, my teacher, Ms. Besl, asked my class to create a Parody out of Jonathan Edward’s work. According to the dictionary ,  Parody is best defined as an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect. Even though they are supposed to be funny, some parodies are kind of grotesque and also use a lot of satirical devices, what creates scary thoughts on some readers, which keep wondering if the author is serious or just being satirical. Parody has entered our day-to-day life through hilarious parody movies that mimic famous blockbusters. “Vampire Sucks” parodies and pokes fun at “Twilight” which was a film adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s novel “Twilight”. Another famous parody example that could be used is “ Sonnet 130”  by Shakespeare, which is a parody of traditional love poems common in his day. He presents an anti-love poem theme in a manner of a lo...

Things I have Learned In AP English

1Hello!! Today, I am going to talk about the things I have learned throughout the year in my english class and also, how I believe I improved as a writer. 1.. " Through F. Scott Fitzgerald's use of language on The Great Gatsby, including the appeal to repetition, pathos, ethos, and imagery, which makes it fair to admit the presence of a covered depressed society behind all the parties and cheerful described people portrayed on his writing and bringing us to think about the idea of happiness compared to the 1920’s." This excerpt was taken from one of my first essays in AP English, I decided to use this due to the fact that I believe it portays my development throughout the course as a writer. I believe that the thesis statement cited above is good but it could have been more specific, this was one of my challenges throughout the year, mantaining the essay balanced between objective and specific. 2. "There is evidence within Oscar Wilde's claim that portrays d...

What If The Great Gatsby Took Place on The Present Days?

I decided to write this week's post about something that I wondered while reading The Great Gatsby this week... Can you imagine if the story of The Great Gatsby was told in real time ? Of course we will never know what it would actually be like, but based on what I’ve been reading so far, and what I know about the amusant characters, my guess is that Gatsby would probably live on Upper West Side, New York; his car would probably be a Mercedes , M aserati , or BMW ; where the brand would be used to show luxury instead of the yellow color; his astonishing shirts brought from England would probably be replaced by Armani and Burberry clothes….Some things would not change -in my vaste opinion -for example, Daisy’s ambition to marry the wealthy guy instead of the poor military one, it is not rare to see that nowadays. Also, something that I think would be different is the fact that Daisy knows -even if she pretends to not- about Tom and Myrtle’s affair. A woman nowadays proba...
