If I had lived in 1692...

We live in a world where everything is open minded, most people have the freedom of speech and people express liberty to do whatever they would like to. However, it was not always like that.....What if I had lived in the 1692?
Well, in my opinion, I would probably have some problems living at this time, and I wouldn't be half of the extroverted person that I am nowadays.
During my english class, we have been reading the book by Arthur Millan, The Crucible, what made me guess about conservatism and how would it be to be living in this period of time. Thankfully, Ms.Besl helped me with these thoughts by showing my english class a quiz where she tested us to know if we would be considered witches in 1692.

According to this quiz, every single person in my class would be considered a witch, which is funny in my opinion because things that are habits nowadays or things that we don’t even take as big deals are extremely censured acts, for example, having female friends, being a midwife, having more than three children or even if you already had a fight or if you are stubborn you would be considered a witch, and the thing gets deeper when it comes to dancing or singing, which were considered to be prohibited actions, and nowadays are considered beautiful actions. Also, something that kind of annoys me is the fact that people in this book are kind of confusing, they did not want women to be married without children, but they also judged women who had “too many”, they did judge people who were poor, but they also did not want people to be rich. What I mean is, it must be hard to live in a time like that were the expectations to be accepted, included into the society are so high.
In fact, if we used the characters of the book The Great Gatsby to test whether they would be considered as witches  -I really liked this book so don’t be mad if I use it as example several times-  we would probably conclude that all characters would be considered witches. First of all because most of them are rich and stubborn, they all dance at parties and Daisy has one child which is a bad sign and there is more, she is a girl.
Isn’t it funny the way that people change concepts and way to think over times? I am glad that people changed their ways of thinking over time, and glad that nowadays, I am not considered a witch. I think that one of the reasons that The Crucible brings the Puritan's requirements to be pure and acceptable in their society, is to show how open minded we are nowadays and how people change over years. That is one of the reasons why I love reading this kind of books, they have so much to teach us about our ancestors, how they used to live and explain why we like this nowadays.

    I like how you used The Great Gatsby as an example to show that anyone could be considered a witch and it would still be wrong. Good job!

Was Gatsby that Great?

First of all, I decided to talk about the question that all of us that read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald may have wondered in the end of the book. Was Gatsby that  Great? In fact, Gatsby could be considered great by his benevolence to always throw parties and let anyone come in even without an invitation, for giving the dress to the woman, by lending his servants to other people, for actually being generous about his money without expecting anything in change of that, and letting people take advantage of it. What If The Great Gatsby Took Place on The Present Days?

I decided to write this week's post about something that I wondered while reading The Great Gatsby this week... Can you imagine if the story of The Great Gatsby was told in real time ? Of course we will never know what it would actually be like, but based on what I’ve been reading so far, and what I know about the amusant characters, my guess is that Gatsby would probably live on Upper West Side, New York; his car would probably be a Mercedes , M aserati , or BMW ; where the brand would be used to show luxury instead of the yellow color; his astonishing shirts brought from England would probably be replaced by Armani and Burberry clothes….Some things would not change -in my vaste opinion -for example, Daisy’s ambition to marry the wealthy guy instead of the poor military one, it is not rare to see that nowadays.
